Watch “Honey, Propolis and Vanilla Soap” on YouTube

The honeycomb came from a wild swarm that moved into an owl box in a residential area around Mount Pleasant, here in Port Elizabeth. Rachel and her bee keeping mentor were able to rehome the whole hive safely to a farm in Patterson. Most of the massive honey comb was fixed to new frames for the bees but the remaining pieces attached to the lid of the owl box was what they kept and this is the honey comb that was used in the soap.

I added in alot of extra Propolis too that I recieved from Sonja and she has reserved a slab that they will sell in their honey shop. I honestly wish you could smell this soap. It really smells delicious. I added in some homemade Vanilla extract and also some turmeric essential oil.

This soap is going to be ultra luxurious on a completely other level. In the soap you can actually see small flecks of the honeycomb as I didn’t melt it down completely.

I used repurposed milk cartons as mold. It’s the first time I’ve done this and I’m very pleased with the end result. I love experimenting with new techniques, ingredients and ways of making soap. I really do try and challenge myself to learn as much as possible from each new batch.
